Spilt Blood church
The Savior on the Spilt Blood Church or Church of the Resurrection of Christ was erected on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was mortally wounded by terrorist. The temple was built by decree of his son Alexander III on the funds raised from all over Russia. The construction of the Cathedral began in 1883 and lasted for 24 years. The Spilt Blood Church is a pearl of Russian architecture: its facades are completely covered with an ornament of mosaic, marble and a figured brick, and the internal furniture is richly decorated with mosaic and stones of valuable breeds. The surface of the five domes of the temple is covered with colored enamel.
The temple is unique in interior decoration It is adorned with 7000 metres of mosaic. In the temple there is a sacred canopy, the place where the attempt on the Emperor took place. It is made of different types of minerals. The Royal gates amaze with luxury.
